When Japanese founder Kihachiro Onitsuka established the Onitsuka Tiger company in 1949 he had a certain vision: He wanted to make sports footwear that helps athletes all over the world achieve their personal goals in a healthy way. The company became ASICS.
The name ASICS is an acronym of the Latin phrase "Anima Sana in Corpore Sano," which translates as "a sound mind in a sound body."
For more than 60 years, ASICS has been developing sports footwear and sportswear, based on 6 decades of innovative research and development, revolutionary technology and a successful sports history. The search for new solutions has always been the driving force behind all our concepts, enabling us to move sports footwear forward.
The basis is our scientific approach, where our developers at the ASICS Research Center in Kobe, Japan work closely with athletes worldwide at every stage. Technology, such as our GEL cushioning system, revolutionary Impact Guidance System (I.G.S.) and Biomorphic, have helped us create some of the most comfortable and performance enhancing footwear and apparel on the market, for both professional and recreational athletes.
