Primus was founded in 1892 by J.V. Svensson and F. W. Lindqvist in Stockholm. Today it belongs to the company Fenix Outdoor AB.
From the very beginning, the company has focused on the production of stoves and everything related to cooking in nature. The Primus stove was the world's first portable kerosene stove. At first, the product was mainly bought by women who sold it at street markets in Stockholm. Subsequently, however, the stove appeared in the equipment of adventurers who used the product during their expeditions.
Primus stoves became part of important expeditions. In 1911, during the conquest of the South Pole, Roald Amundsen had a Primus stove, while Salomon August Andrée had one during his attempt to conquer the North Pole. In 1953, Edmund Hillary also had a Primus stove in his equipment when climbing Mount Everest.
The company currently also produces lanterns, thermoses, cutlery and other camping equipment.
