What is skate blade profiling?
Are you looking for ways to become faster, stronger, and more efficient on the ice? We’ve got a detail that could give you a major advantage over your opponents. We offer a hockey skate blade profiling service. But what does that mean?
For most of us, sharpening hockey skates is a given. But no one really pays attention to blade profiling. And that’s a mistake. Profiling shapes the blade to match the hockey player’s skating style, giving them an edge and supporting their strengths. Without changing anything in your technique, improving your speed, stability, or agility becomes much easier.
What types of profiles do we offer?
We profile the groove of hockey skate blades using the Bauer ProSharp skate sharpener. Two profiles are available – Quad and Zuperior.
- Quad profile – Choose this if you prefer power skating, make quick directional changes, and need explosive starts. It's popular among defensemen or larger, more physical players.
- Zuperior profile – Ideal for those who favor speed and want more agility. This profile creates a slight forward lean, allowing for a more aggressive skating style. It’s especially favored by forwards and lighter players.
How often should you get your blades profiled?
Just like skates get dull, the blade profile also wears down. That’s why it’s recommended to profile your blades three times a year – before the season, mid-season, and before the playoffs. Ideally, you should always profile your skates on the same type of sharpener to maintain the precision and quality of the profile.
Be cautious with manual sharpening – it destroys the blade profile. We also offer sharpening with a professional Bauer ProSharp machine.
